Remembering Mars: A Celebration of Life for Marsellus Fariss
Marsellus Scott Fariss(November 3, 1976 – May 27, 2024) Join us at The Grey Eagle as we celebrate the life of a truly extraordinary person and long time contributor to Asheville’s creative scene, Marsellus Fariss. Mars was one of the most compassionate and hardest working people in addition to being one of the best and most knowledgeable audio engineers AND guitar players on Earth. He was a friend to everyone he crossed paths with and was a shining example of selflessness, always putting others’ needs ahead of his own. Taken from us far too soon, our hearts go out endlessly to Mars’ family and friends as we come together to honor his life. Professionally, Mars was the production manager and primary FOH engineer at The Grey Eagle for nearly a decade helping shape the venue into what it is today. He was also a world class musician beloved by everyone who had the good fortunate of sharing a stage or trading a solo with him. Mars’ contributions to Asheville and The Grey Eagle will be felt forever. He also left is endearing and unforgettable mark on New Orleans and Athens, GA. In his time in New Orleans, Mars was a highly sought after live audio engineer and guitar player, working in many of NOLA’s legendary venues and playing historic stages. Mars was extremely passionate about sharing his knowledge of audio engineering with others and he found his true calling at Tweed Recording as an audio engineer and instructor upon moving to Athens, GA. This is an ALL AGES, FREE event beginning at 7pm on Saturday August 31. Donations will be accepted on night of show, 100% of which will go directly to Tweed Recording Audio Production School’s Marsellus Fariss scholarship fund they’ve set up. More details on that will be revealed shortly, as well. A list of confirmed performers and more details about the event will be shared shortly. If you performed with Mars or held a special place in his life and would like to contribute your musical offerings at this Celebration of Life, please contact us directly at [email protected] with FOR MARS in the subject line.
